报告内容Smart Grid technologies are playing an increasingly important role in the bulk power system operation. As renewable energy becomes a significant portion of the generation mix, “smart” technologies are needed to manage the intermittency associated with renewable such as wind and solar. Also the proliferation of “demand side” technologies is creating a need to be “smart” in aggregating individual device response into the bulk system load. As the power systems get more integrated and the demand gets “smarter”, Smart Grid technologies will have an increasingly important part to play in the control and operation of the electric grid. This presentation will highlight some of the key issues in the operation of bulk power systems with smart grid technologies, in particular, renewable energy and demand response. The presentation will also talk about the Power Engineering and Smart Grid Program at Clarkson University.

 

Lei Wu (吴磊)博士简介

 

Dr. Lei Wu received his Ph.D. degree in EE from Illinois Institute of Technology, USA, in 2008. Presently, he is an Assistant Professor in the ECE Department at Clarkson University. His research interests include power systems optimization and economics. He received the NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2013, and IBM Smarter Planet Faculty Innovation Award in 2012. He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of U.S. National Science Foundation grants ECCS-1102064 and ECCS-1254310. He serves as PI and Co-PI of over $2 million projects on smart grid research and development. His educational and research activities are supported by grants from NSF, DOE, GE, and IBM. He has experience working with NYISO, GE, and Siemens Energy Automation on various power system studies. He has extensive publications on power systems research and is the recipient of the IEEE Transactions Prize Paper Award from the IEEE Power and Energy Society in 2009. He is an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy and Guest Editor of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid. 吴磊,美国克拉克森大学,电气与计算机工程系,Assistant ProfessorIEEE Senior Member2008 年于美国伊利诺伊理工大学获得博士学位,主要从事电力系统优化和经济性研究。2012年获得IBM Smarter Planet Faculty Innovation奖,2013年获得NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER)奖;负责承担美国国家自然基金项目(ECCS-1102064ECCS-1254310),发表IEEE Transactions IET Proceedings论文30余篇。在智能电网方面的研究得到了美国政府和工业界(GE, IBM)的资助,累计科研经费200 余万美元。2009年获得由IEEE Power and Energy Society颁发的IEEE Transactions Prize Paper Award,目前担任IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy的编辑和IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid的客座编辑。
