Abstract:
The excess free energy of liquid/liquid and liquid/air interfaces makes the adsorption of third-party substances a spontaneous process. The stabilization of emulsions, foams and dry waters/liquid marbles by polymer and polymer latexes has been and is still an increasingly intensive investigated field. The adsorption of particles at interfaces is both important in theoretical and practical researches.
The particles adsorbed at the interfaces could not only reduce the interfacial energy but also serve as a solid barrier to enhance the stability for various emulsion and foam systems. In this presentation, emulsions stabilized by functionalized particles and their phase inversions will be discussed and a SPG membrane device will subsequently introduced to prepare monodisperse particle-stabilized emulsions and its applications for delivery of ingredients. Various parameters that will influence the emulsion droplets size will be discussed. In the end, liquid marbles stabilized by polymeric latexes and silica particles will be presented. We have investigated the parameters that influence the shape and kinetics of polymeric latexes and in a further step interfacial reactions are carried out at the liquid marble air/water interface.
