摘要:A shortcut to adiabaticity is a fast non-adiabatic driving protocol of a classical or quantum system that leads to the same outcome that would result from a slow adiabatic process. In the current technological age, with our ability to manipulate devices at the nanoscale and beyond, one must understand the consequences of engines which operate at the quantum mechanical level. In this domain one cannot avoid the emergence of both quantum and thermal fluctuations which drastically alter the energetics of the cycle. It is widely accepted that the efficiency of an engine is maximized at the expense of reducing its output power and vice versa. A way out of this trade-off can be found by utilizing shortcuts to adiabaticity to realize a thermodynamic cycle working at finite power and zero friction. The ultimate performance bounds are dictated by recently-derived quantum speed limits for arbitrary physical processes.
