报告题目:熔盐电化学制备活性金属和纳米碳
报告人姓名:Carsten Schwandt
报告时间:2015-06-16 10:00
报告地点:延长校区日新楼410室
报告内容简介:This presentation will summarise the research and development work conducted or led by the author that has contributed towards new processing routes for the winning of reactive metals and nano-structured carbon by using molten salts. The FFC-Cambridge process is a generic molten salt electrolytic method that makes possible the direct conversion of metal oxides into the corresponding metals through the cathodic polarisation of the oxide in a molten salt electrolyte based on calcium chloride. An introduction into the FFC process will be given, discussing its invention, the underlying scientific fundamentals, the investigation and optimisation of the key process parameters, and some aspects of scale-up.

报告人简介(英文):Carsten Schwandt graduated with a Master’s in Chemistry from Braunschweig University of Technology and earned a Doctorate in Natural Sciences at the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research Stuttgart. In 1998, he joined the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge, where he held various research and teaching positions. In 2013, Carsten became the National Chair Professor of Materials Science and Metallurgy of the Sultanate of Oman, based at the University of Nizwa. Carsten is also a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at his previous affiliation in Cambridge. Carsten has developed a diverse research portfolio in the realms of energy materials and sustainable processing. His specific areas of interest are the development of molten salt-based processes and reactors for the extraction of reactive metals, the recycling of strategic metals and the production of nano-scale carbon, as well as the synthesis, characterisation and evaluation of materials for application in devices such as fuel cells, batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells and electrochemical sensors.
