背景和宗旨
Background and Purpose:
Over the last few years, low energy excited states have been observed in a range of photosynthetic reaction centres and light-harvesting complexes. These states play no role in the accepted mechanisms through which this machinery operates, yet in cases they can themselves provide function. It is thus clear that many established scenarios are incomplete, but as some very basic questions are being raised it is not clear just how profound these new results really are. Some assignments for the new low-energy states in certain systems have been suggested. Are these features general or just system specific? What about the unassigned states? These issues will be discussed at the meeting. First people will present key experimental results, proposed models, and available experimental and theoretical tools pertaining to low-energy excited states in photosynthesis. Then ways will be investigated for developing a broad-ranging scientific solution on the 3 year timescale. A focus will be on the development and application of consistent methods- preparative, measurement, and computational- applied to as many systems as possible. This includes making measurements using different apparatii on the same samples. Collaboration between all participants will be encouraged.
近几年来,研究人员已经在一系列光合反应中心和捕光复合物中观察到了低能量激发态。但这种状态的作用机制在目前已被人们广泛接受的光合作用理论中却未得到相应的阐述,而事实上这种低能量激发态在很多情况下是能够发挥自身作用的。所以,目前人们对光合作用的认识还不全面,一些新的基本问题的答案会有怎样深远的影响尚不清楚。针对一些系统中低能量状态已经被研究探明确定。而这些特征是具有普遍性还是系统所特有的?那些未被确认的态又是如何?本次研讨会将就上述问题展开讨论。首先,与会学者将论述与光合作用低能激发状态有关的重要实验结果、建模、实验工具和理论工具。其次,我们将致力于寻求在未来三年内可广泛应用的科学解决方案,聚焦开发和应用一整套制备方法、测量方法和计算方法,并将其应用于尽可能多的系统中,包括在相同样品上使用不同设备进行测量。我们鼓励所有参会者积极展开全方位合作研究。
