Mission of College of Digital Arts

College of Digital Arts，established on January 18^th, 2005 is the first comprehensive college specialized in digital arts approved by the Ministry of Education of the PRC in China. Student enrollment was formally opened in August of 2005. The College of Digital Arts flourishes through the scholarly, creative, and professional achievements of its students, faculty and staff. The current enrollment of the college is 568 of full-time students. Offering a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, the college fosters teaching and research of the highest quality. As a diverse and creative community, we contribute positively to China and beyond through our imagination, innovation and commitment.,

Our mission is threefold: the education of the nation's diverse citizens through teaching, research and creative activity, and service. We are committed to build up the richest resource in the nation wide of advanced capable talents who are capable of researching and practicing, arts design and digital technology applying, which will feed the needs of the education, industry and services. Surrounded by the open academic studying atmosphere, we exchange the most up-dated thoughts and view in various fields. It is also anticipated that our college would become the most professional and strongest academic entity specialized in digital arts in China.

l Faculty and Courses

Current faculty and staff are total 90 with 11 full professors, 22 associate professors, 7 specially-employed part-time professors, 17 faculty members have received their Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in foreign universities or institutes. All of our faculty members are extraordinary, leading professional artists. They are members and leaders of noted associations and have received prestigious awards. They contribute not only in teaching practice but also their experiences in their production of industry.

Among the fulltime and part-time faculty are film and television making national award winning directors, noted scholars, producer of nominated documentary, big name of publisher of digital arts books, the developer of the post-production sound system and award-winning animators. Those specialized faculty include primarily working professionals, such as National Film Jinji Award winning director, China Film Huangbiao Award winning director Zhang Jianya, famous national-grade I actor and the compere of Shanghai television station Lin Pudong. National television entertainment Xingguang Award winning producer Liu Xiumei, Xinhua News Agency Animation Group director and art designer Li Dongning, Author of Fundamental Game, designer of Iveco web site and chief designer and producer of engine for Shangmei Game Dream Mill Zhangli, Cinematographer Pan Xiaobing, famous national-grade I director, China Jinying Award winning director, Zhaoyong, GM of Mars Time, the largest CG web site firm in China, the most qualified leading scholar in digital arts, Professor Wangqi, noted contemporary China film and animation researcher and critic Doctor Yang Xiaolin, famous photographer Pan Zhangming, the authorized all-around photographer for the World Man Model Competition of 2002, etc.

l Facilities

Students utilize the Computer Animation Laboratory, the HPXW 4300 workstation Classroom, and Apple computer lab imacG5, which provide a wealth of hardware and software invested by the college.

Industry Research Centers

Being approved and supported by the Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and Chinese Broadcasting Association, the College of Digital Arts has established Chinese Architectural Culture Center, Public Arts Academe, Chinese Broadcasting Institution, Digital Arts Research Center, etc.

We have established Digital Arts College of Shanghai University (Taiwan) Design Research Center, Digital Arts College of Shanghai University (Taiwan) Image Strategy Ally Research Institution in the cooperation with the Fine Arts Department of Taiwan Normal School and Taiwan Image Strategy Ally.
