School of
Social Science
The School of Social Science of Shanghai University
is primarily engaged in providing public courses in
the fields of political science, such as Marxist philosophy,
political economics, international politics and economics,
jurisprudence, and Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping theory
and thought.
The school is divided into six teaching groups, including
Philosophy, Economics, Theory of Law, Mao Zedong Thought,
Deng Xiaoping Theory, and Ideological Education. In
addition, it operates two research centers for Science
& Technology and Philosophy and the History of Shanghai
Immigrants. There is also a training center for master¡¯s
degree students and an adult education department. In
2002, 25 postgraduate students will study at the campus,
and 300 students will attend classes at the education
department for adults.
There are currently 64 staff members at the School of
Social Science, among whom four are professors and 22
are associate professors. Twenty-one of these hold Ph.D
degrees, and 56 percent of the staff is under the age
of 40.
Yang Junyi, dean of the school, was born in 1958 and
graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Ji Lin
University. He holds a Ph. D from Liaoning University
and is now a professor of philosophy and doctoral superviser
of sociology. His research area covers Marxist Philosophy,
Economics, and Sociology.
The school is honored to have Mr. Yu Guang Yuan, a well-known
Chinese economist, as its honorary dean. Yu Wu Jin and
Qiu Bai Sheng, both from Fudan University, and Ye Dun
Ping, from Shanghai Communication University, are among
our guest professors.
In recent years, significant achievements have been
made in the field of research on applied philosophy,
science and technical production forces, and SOE reform.
We have successfully completed three state-level projects
and various other projects assigned by the municipality
and Education Commission. More than 10 academic books
have been published and over 100 papers have been released.
