The Department of Physical Education, which includes 3 teaching-sections, training-contesting center, sports scientific research center, office, and rear service group, 14 associate professors, and 59 instructors. The department mainly takes on teaching public physical education courses to students, at the same time, organizing sports competitions, constructing environment of physical culture, and studying about physical education discipline, in the campus.

Follow our university motto "self-developing endless" as our spirit, build up new instructional　thought in the teaching of physical education, to take the humanity as fundamentality，to develop the students at all aspect, primacy of wellness, and life-long benefit. Insisting on direction of reform, exploring new system models of physical education on three uniformity　of internal-external class, skill and innate quality，teaching and mass activities. Our mission is to provide the best physical education that prepares our students to succeed in the future career.

In development of sports in campus, the effects of physical education have been exerted in innate quality education. We concentrate the focus on rate of participation in physical activities of students and surround the center of style in administrating sports teams. The Volley Ball team features the brand of Shanghai University, won the third place in the international youth tournament in Greece, and won the championship on the national students game.

To promote the researching level of faculty, we regard to develop research in discipline of physical education. Recently years，38 articles have been published on the core -journals in the nation, and 16 men-times gained first or second grade excellent articles prize that awarded by National Education Ministry and national associations of physical education and sports.

The reform creates developmental foundation and condition for physical education in our university. Our department has been awarded as excellent unit for carrying out work-regulations of school physical education by National Education Ministry, also been awarded by the university.

Faculty and staff will envisage opportunity and challenge with new spirit of exploitation and solidification, to strive with on a firm footing and faithful responsibility for more brilliant achievements and glories.
