Seightseeing Tour

College of International Exchange was set up to undertake the Chinese teaching of the Chinese government scholarship students, the administration and Chinese teaching of overseas students at their own expenses, the reception of foreigners' investigation at their own expenses, the international educational cooperation, and the international exchanges of students. Now the dean of College of International Exchange is Vice President of Shanghai University, Prof. Wang Qi. There is a Center of Chinese Language Teaching & Research in the college. It aims at improving the Chinese Language teaching quality and the Science Research Level. It focuses on the leader in scientific research, sustainable development research project and modern teaching base. Thus a steady teaching staff has been established, and various courses have been offered to apt to different students' backgrounds.

There are 16 full-time Chinese Language teachers in the Center of Chinese Language Teaching & Research. Among whom 3 are professors and 8 are vice professors or those having master degrees. 80% has acquired the Certificates for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Part-time teachers are more than 20.

Shanghai University is one of the 56 members of the board of China Society for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, 1 member of the board. It is also one of the universities that the Ministry of Education of China assigns teachers overseas teaching.

The Background of Teachers

Xiong Wen, female, lecturer, is the director of the Center of the Chinese language Teaching and Research of the college. She is the member of the board of China Society for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, also one member of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching. She was graduated in June 1994 from East Normal University, and got master degree. Since then she has been working in the College of International Exchange of Shanghai University. She was sent to teach Chinese as an expert in National University of Laos from September 1996 to September 1998. She is the chief editor of the book "Chinese Language Listening Course" and "Elementary Chinese Reading Textbook" etc. publishing 17 papers such as "the Simplification Principles on Second language Teaching and Learning"(World Chinese Teaching 1997.)

Hu Kunhui, female, associates professor, is the member of China Society for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. She began to teach Chinese in the college from 1979. In 1990, she was invited to Japan as a seat of honor to the fourth Undergraduate Chinese Speech Competition in West Japan. She was once the editor of the intermediate class textbook "Scientific Chinese", publishing or reading out 14 papers in the academic annual meetings, for example "Study on the Chinese Language teaching to foreigners".

YU Jiang, male, lecturer, has the master degree. He was sent to teach Chinese in Nantes University in France from January 1998 to March 1998. He published or read out 14 papers such as "a Historical Investigation of the 'and class function words in early Modern Chinese "(Chinese Language in 1996.)

Wu Xieyao, male, lecturer, is the member of China Society for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. He graduated from East Normal University in June 1993 and got the master degree. He has been teaching Chinese in the college since 1995, he is assigned to Minsk Language University in Byelorussia to teach Chinese in 1999.

Classification and Duration of Courses

Foreign students can apply to study Chinese language for short or long period in College of International Exchange. We mainly cultivate their capability of communication in Chinese Language, deepen their understanding of China. Students who are interested in undergraduate course, Chinese Culture, can apply to study in our university with Chinese Students. Major in Culture, Culture management or Foreign Chinese Language.

Qualification and Term for Admission:

  • Undergraduate: Applicants who have completed the secondary education with the diplomas and school reports. HSK 6 band. No more than 25 years old ,in good health, can register themselves for the program.
  • The Chinese language students: Applicants who are interested in Chinese Language, Chinese history & culture, no more than 45 years old (in certain case, no upper limit), in good health, can register themselves for the program. Students will be divided into several groups according to their levels of Chinese.
