Intellectual Property School
The Intellectual Property School of Shanghai University
was established in 1994 from the former Center of Intellectual
Property Education and Research founded in 1988 and the
Department of Law founded in 1979. There are more than
30 teachers in the school, including seven professors
and seven associate professors. In addition, some well-respected
experts and scholars in the field of intellectual property
have been invited to serve as part-time professors.
Prof. Fang Minglun, a secretary of the party committee,
vice president of Shanghai University and a doctoral supervisor,
has served as dean since 1994.
Prof. Tao Xinliang is the current vice dean, and there
are three additional vice deans: Prof. Chen Jianping,
Prof. Cheng Pu and Prof. Shan Xiaoguang.
Since the department’s establishment, approximately 1,000
students have graduated, and there are currently more
than 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled.
Meanwhile, more than 100 graduate students are researching
topics related to intellectual property, intellectual
property management and the protection of intellectual
property in international trade. In addition, the school
is providing one part-time, graduate-level class on intellectual
property management and elective courses on intellectual
property for the whole university.
In all, the school has trained more than 10,000 individuals,
and the department has already provided basic legal courses,
professional legal courses and series of intellectual
property courses for five different levels – students,
bio-degree students, graduate students, part-time graduate
students and part-time legal trainees.
The school applies legal theories to practical cases,
providing students with strong professional grounding
and a comprehensive base for their future employment.
Graduates are succeeding in the courts, government agencies,
legal firms, and private enterprises.
