The speciality is aimed to train the advanced and specialized talents who not only have certain accomplishments of liberal arts and systematic knowledge of Chinese language and literature but can take up comments on liberal works and teaching and researching as well, who can also do practical work on culture and propaganda. Students of this speciality are proposed to learn the basic knowledge mainly about Chinese language and liberal arts. Besides, systematic education and basic training are offered, the former of which contains some relevant theory and the developing history and the present situation of research, etc.

1.Liberal Arts
There are Comment On Chinese Literature, Literature Of Movies and Television, The Commentary Of Present Liberal Arts, The Cultural History of Chinese Arts, etc. All is aimed to develop the ability of connoisseur, creation and comment, to develop the talents that are capable of scientific research and practical work to meet the needs of editing, news, advertisement, movies and television, public affairs, secretary, etc.
2.External Chinese Language
There are Grammar of External Chinese Language, The Comparison of English and Chinese, The Translation Between English and Chinese, The Study of Euro-American Linguistics and so on. All is aimed to develop the specialized talents with good English training and fine qualifications of Chinese so as to deal with Chinese language teaching towards foreigners and be capable of the application of English and Chinese in high levels of various kinds of the society, such as editing, secretary, public affairs, foreign affairs and advertisement.
3.The Management of Culture and Arts
There are The Policy and Laws of Culture, The Management of Culture and Arts, The Comparison of the Management of domestic and foreign culture, Market Running and Selling, etc. All is aimed to develop the talents who are capable of culture administration and the management of culture and entertainment. This direction initiated enrolling ungraduate students, thus became the chief base training the talents of culture management of Shanghai.

The speciality is aimed to train the advanced and specialized talents who not only have certain accomplishments of the basic theory of historical materialism and systematic knowledge of historical culture but can take up daily management and secretary work in government office, culture and education facilities, news publishment, tourism industry, archives of culture and natural science and library as well to meet the needs of the times and the development of the society.
Students of this
speciality are proposed to learn the basic theory and knowledge of the
study of history, to have basic training of history research, archaeology
and the research of culture and natural science and the research of the
culture of tourism, thus to have the basic ability of doing special work
and to meet the needs of social work.
The teachers and students of history department are at the archaeological studies scene of The Three Gorges
Graduates of this speciality will be in possession of the knowledge and ability as follows:

of our school. It is also the earliest department established since
Sociology was renewed in our country. With continuous efforts and
improvement for twenty years, this department have formed some
features of its own, the research achievements of which have made
great contributions to social and economic development of Shanghai

Shen Guanbao of Sociology Department have been in charge of several

Shanghai City file department in bureau and common developments file in college of arts
The archives speciality of college of liberal arts of Shanghai University is the only teaching unit of undergraduate course in Shanghai. We have had more than 700 graduates since the opening of the speciality in 1981. Now there are 224 students studying at school.
The specialized subject of archives: This is a subject that regards archives and archives management as researching object, containing much synthesis and application. The main content of it is to study the nature , characteristic, function and regular pattern of archives and the principle and technique and methods of archives management, etc.The speciality is aimed to explore and study the objective law of archives and archives management activities, to conclude a scientific and reasonable and effective way of management in order to push archives management work and the whole archives undertaking forward , giving systematic knowledge and scientific theory guide to archives worker. At the moment , the study of archives has become an substantial and independent subject with a reasonable structure and complete system.
