Discipline of Printmaking




The discipline of Printmaking meets the needs of the development of public arts, it rewrites the history of educational print in Shanghai. Printmaking art has the tradition of reflecting the important social theme and the real lives because Shanghai locates in the area of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, which are the birthplaces of Printmaking in China, and the traditional Prints are prevailing there. In order to meet the needs of society and markets in Shanghai, the department tries to enhance the expressive force of Print and enlarge social service area based on the predominance of area and culture, art express provided by advanced science and technology and the advantages of research of expressive methods.


Length of Study:
Undergraduate Courses, 4 years; Master Candidate Courses, 3 years


Academic Objectives:
Students should systematically be aware of the fundamental knowledge of modern arts of printing, be familiar of technological language of Print and master the basic techniques of Print and Design. They are also responsible for the producing and design of Print on individual bases.


Courses Requirements:
Basic Painting, Basic Design, Artistic Design of Printing, Techniques of all kinds of Print (xylograph, metallic plate, stone plate, webby plate), Materials of Printmaking, Production and Practice
