The college has followed Shanghai University schooling motto of serving economic development and social progress of Shanghai and taken on a lot of creative public arts designs of crucial engineering projects in Shanghai. For example, designing the Macro-scheme for the "knowledge Avenue" in shanghai Educational Base for the Youth; designing and creative work of Macro-scheme for the group sculptures of historical famous people; artistic works of frescos for the main metro stations of No 1 and No 2 lines; creative designing of sculpture of main sights in Shanghai for Shanghai Municipal Layout Institute; model designing and producing for railway transportation in Shanghai.

We have held series of exhibitions on designing activities titled "Gateway to the Future". This is a successful design practice and teaching activity, in which the exhibitions of creative works directed by the target discussion on the social project research of teaching program, seminars and commentary conducted by the international educationists on design, consultation on art design serving the daily life and advertising the teaching achievement of the college are included. The social responsibility of art education program is to cultivate the person with ability, to make out brilliant works and to participate in social art exchange activities. In recent years, the faculty and the students have thrown themselves into the artistic designs with full energy and won various kinds of awards in the exhibitions both nationally and internationally. In 2001, our students' woks won the two top prizes for traditional Chinese Painting and oil painting on the Shanghai Fine arts Exhibition of Youth, one top prize on the Exhibition of Works of Students from the School of Fine Arts in Shanghai and one top prize on the Designing Competitions.
