On October 28, the three-day Asia Simulation Conference & International Conference on System Simulation and Scientific Computing 2012 (AsiaSim & ICSC 2012) was held in Shanghai Guangda International Conference Hotel. AsiaSim & ICSC 2012 was organized by Chinese Association for System Simulation and Shanghai University, and jointly sponsored by the Federation of Asian Simulation Societies and co-sponsored by Japanese Society for Simulation Technology (JSST), Korea Society for Simulation (KSS), the Society for Modeling & Simulation International (SCS), International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (IMACS ), Federation of European Simulation Societies (EUROSIM) and IEEE Shanghai Section. The Federation of Asian Simulation Societies was established in 2011, mainly constituted by Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Singapore and other Asian countries’ Simulation Society, and represents the highest level of the field of simulation in Asia today.

The main guests participating in the conference were as follows, Professor Bo Hu Li, the president of the Federation of Asian Simulation Societies, the director of Chinese Association for System Simulation, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Qinping Zhao, the vice chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the director of Chinese Association for System Simulation (Former Deputy Minister of Education), Chen Jie, the deputy director of Shanghai Commission for Science and Technology, Professor Wu Song, the Vice president of Shanghai University. Meanwhile, the conference invited a number of internationally renowned experts, including Professor Satoshi Tanaka, the Chairman of Japanese Society for Simulation Technology, Professor Yoon Bae Kim, the Vice Chairman of Korea Society for Simulation, Professor Bernard P.Zeigler (IEEE Fellow), the former chairman of the Society for Modeling & Simulation International, Professor Axel Lehmann, the former chairman of the Society for Modeling & Simulation International, Professor Ralph Huntsinger, the former chairman and now the vice chairman of the Society for Modeling & Simulation International and some other authorities from the International simulation academia.

Professor Wu Song, the Vice president of Shanghai University, gave an important speech at the opening ceremony as the representative of Shanghai University. Professor Wu Song firstly extended his sincere welcome to the guests and the representatives attending the conference and warmly congratulated on the successful convening of the meeting. Professor Wu introduced the development of Shanghai University and the international development strategy of actively carrying out international exchanges and cooperation to the domestic and foreign guests. The speech emphasized that system simulation technology played an increasingly important role in modern society, economy, education and other fields, which, especially in recent years, had a qualitative leap in simulation technology. The conference provided a good platform for communication and valuable opportunities of cooperation to the scholars in the field of modeling & simulation. Finally, he wished the conference a great success. The guests participating in the opening ceremony were as follows: Professor Shi Liyi, the director of the Department for Science and Technology; Professor Fei Minrui, the chairman of the organizing committee, the party secretary and vice president of School of Mechanical Engineering & Automation; Professor Ma Shiwei ,the Vice Chairman of the Program Committee, the director of Department of Automation; Professor Liu Tingzhang and Professor Zhang Shaohua, the Vice Directors of Department of Automation; Professor Jia Li ,the Secretary-General of the Conference , Assistant of the Dean and Professor Hu Huosheng, Gust Professor of Shanghai University, Professor of United Kingdom ESSEX University etc.

Asia Simulation Conference (AsiaSim) is an annual international conference organized go-around by three Asia Simulation Societies: CASS, JSST and KSS since 1999. Now it becomes a series conference of the Federation of Asian Simulation Societies (ASIASIM) that was established in 2011. The conference is an International Simulation Conference organized by the Federation of Asian Simulation Societies for the first time. The International Conference on System Simulation and Scientific Computing (ICSC) is a series conference sponsored by Chinese Association for System Simulation. Since 1989, it has become an important platform for academic exchanges. The conference is jointly held by the two major conference series.

The meeting received a total of 906 academic papers. All papers went through a rigorous peer-review process, and the Program Committee finally selected 298 high-quality papers for presentation at the meeting, from which 267 papers were then sub-selected for inclusion into 5 volumes published in the Springer Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) proceedings (See Springer website
31 papers will be published in SCI retrieval of important international journals after the meeting. These papers reflect the latest advantages in the field of simulation theory and applications, with a high level of academic significance and practical value.

More than 450 delegates, university teachers and students from eight countries including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia attended the conference. They expanded a discussion of system modeling and simulation, virtual prototyping, embedded computing and simulation technology, parallel and distributed software, modeling and simulation technology in the fields of engineering, energy and the environment, economic management, education and life sciences. All the seven domestic and international authoritative experts’ report is really valuable. The size and academic standards of the conference have reached an unprecedented level of the international standards of the series of conference. The domestic and foreign guests wrote the inscription for the Conference, speaking highly of the success of the event, and gave sincere thanks to the organizational work of Shanghai University especially the outstanding performance of the volunteers. Professor Qinping Zhao, the Vice-Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, wrote inscription for the conference with the words "to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation and to develop simulation technology and simulation industry"; Academician Bohu Li. The Chairman of the Federation of Asian Simulation Societies, send a message that he hoped to make a greater contribution to the development of simulation technology to Shanghai University. Professor Axel Lehmann, the former chairman of the Society for Modeling & Simulation International in the inscription said that “Thank you all for your significant efforts for your wonderful hospitality “ and expressed gratitude to the excellent organization of the reception work of our school. Professor Yun Kim, Korean scholars, praised the volunteers with the words "What a great job you guys did! Especially those unsung volunteers". Professor Gary Tan from Singapore wrote the inscription with the words "Congrats on organizing a great conference".

Since Shanghai University successfully hosted the Asia Simulation Conference in 2002 for the first time, its influence and role in the field of simulation has grown day by day. Untill now Shanghai University has become the vice chairman unit of Chinese Association for System Simulation, linked unit of the Professional Committee of Life system modeling and simulation. With the start of the National Conference on Life System Modeling and Simulation in 2004, it founded the series International Conference on Life system Modeling and Simulation in 2007 and 2010.It is the tenth year since Shanghai University hosted the Asia Simulation Conference in 2002 for the first time. Owe to the significant contribution of Shanghai University’s second holding, Academician Bohu Li presented the Outstanding Organization Award to Shanghai University (EXCELLENT ORGANIZATION AWARD) on behalf of the Federation of Asian Simulation Societies.

Shanghai TV, Wenhui News, Xinmin Evening News and Shanghai Education Television sent their reporters to give live interviews of the conference. The Chinese academic conference online recorded the full video of the conference and published the video.
